In the early 1980’s when cable television was in its infancy, John Ballentyne and Dianne Brumble started a partnership. Their shooter/sound team captured breaking network news stories, corporate communications, and documentaries. Finding success early, the pair started their first company, Ballentyne Brumble Communications. BBC excelled in documentary storytelling and from those roots the company grew and expanded to producing and directing corporate theater, live satellite broadcasts, and high-profile programs around the world. Building a well-earned reputation for quality and fiscal responsibility in 1995 the company embarked on a new venture - a sister company named Cubist Post & Effects.
Cubist was created to provide post-production services to BBC as well as other producers seeking to work in a highly creative environment. The founding principles of mixing art and bleeding edge technology still permeate our business today. As the two companies’ reputation spread the work followed and together they continued to grow. The first full-time employees joined the company and soon they outgrew the storefront studio in Fishtown and moved to a light-filled, loft-like studio in old city we still call home today. In this studio BBC and Cubist Post have developed compelling documentary stories, immersive media for major educational museums, global employee communications programs and have become the areas foremost DVD authoring and compression studio.
As we looked back over two decades of experience we were forced to look forward and the timing was right to combine the best of both companies under a new name. Cubist Media Group is everything and more than Ballentyne Brumble and Cubist Post & Effects were individually, and we will continue to build on the foundation established through them. While our name has changed, we still bring our combined history of exploiting emerging and disruptive media technologies for the benefit of our clients.
